Indie Monkey Kingdom has turned to ITV Global Entertainment to help expand its scripted portfolio into original dramas suitable for international sales.
ITV Global will help the producer - best known for entertainment programmes such as The Charlotte Church Show - to develop drama projects, piece together international finance deals and sell the programmes around the globe.
The deal will help ITV Global push into the scripted arena by giving it first-look rights to Monkey’s content. The indie’s new drama team will be headed by Catherine Oldfield, who has already optioned a novel from Slaughterhouse-Five author Kurt Vonnegut with help from ITV.
Monkey managing director David Granger said: “While many bemoan the fact the scripted world is going through a difficult stage, to us it feels like the time’s right for a new creative and commercial approach.”
ITV Global Entertainment head of drama Noel Hedges added: “Monkey has the creative energy and skill to attract the most exciting established and emerging writers and talent.”
